Supreme Court allows UP panchayat vote counting | India News

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Saturday refused to defer counting of votes in the Uttar Pradesh panchayat elections, scheduled for May 2, but added new norms to the stringent Covid protocol for safe completion of the process for declaration of results in 2,41,451 seats.
All officials and candidates or their agents must show Covid negative report or undergo a rapid antigen test before being allowed entry into the counting centre. In the alternative, they must possess certificate for double-dose vaccination. No crowd would be permitted around the counting centres by imposing curfew and no victory procession would be allowed, ruled a bench of Justices A M Khanwilkar and Hrishikesh Roy.
